FALL SEMESTER (8.29.11 - 12.16.11) or- SPRING SEMESTER ( 1.4.12 - 5.13.12 )
This online course will teach students the basic elements of music: form, duration, melody, harmony, and techniques of variation. Students will learn about these elements through musical examples, and also explore ways in which music is related to other arts through those same basic elements. While there are some elements of music history, primarily this course is about developing critical listening skills that apply to a wide range of music. This course is one semester in length, and students will be assessed through writing requirements, online quizzes, discussion groups, and other collaborative projects.

Jim Murray teaches in the Music Department at Lourdes College, Sylvania. Jim holds a bachelor’s degree in music education, along with a master’s degree in education.
